Gelvenor Assists The Local Community To Ensure That Safety Is A Priority
At Gelvenor, safety is the highest priority and we make use of a substantial amount of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that our staff are protected against hazards in the workplace. Our PPE is replaced every two years, but these items are often still in great condition – when compared to the PPE worn by many workers in less fortunate circumstances.
Prior to 2017, this old PPE was shredded and discarded, but last year Gelvenor employee Michael Roberts identified a great opportunity for the company to continue its commitment to supporting their surrounding community. Roberts suggested that Gelvenor’s second-hand PPE that is still of good quality be donated to local volunteer charity association, The Ark KZN.
The Ark is a refuge for those battling addiction, providing a sanctuary in which they can heal, recover, and re-discover their place in the world. Gelvenor made their first donation to The Ark in 2017, donating 6 months’ worth of safety boots, overalls, PPE jackets and trousers, shirts, formal pants and a large bag of mixed fabrics. Ark representatives were delighted and grateful, putting the clothes to good use and keeping the men at The Ark safe and comfortable while they work.
This year, Gelvenor has continued their tradition of generosity and social upliftment by donating 37 pairs of safety shoes, 31 pairs of trousers, 11 coats, 2 pairs of jeans and a lab coat. Everyone from both Gelvenor and The Ark are overjoyed at the impact the garments have made on the lives of The Ark’s residents, and the Gelvenor team will continue to support the organisation in the years going forward.
